Today was the last day of FashionCampNYC :(

A breakfast networking meeting was a hit with representatives from Elle, Coach and other top fashion houses, the campers networked like pros.

Our program director Phyllis gave a talk on fashion marketing calling on her experience working for L’Oreal and other beauty houses.

Arbonne International, a network marketing company who has cornered the market in organic cosmetic and skin care, followed.  They were very well received, especially the fee samples!!!

The afternoon was the big “end of session” presentations.  Each group presented their products, brand, and the reasoning behind them.  Ideas ranged from hand bags to denim, sneakers, to a day and night cosmetic product.  Each group showed they had learned so much from the week at FashionCampNYC and have much to offer the fashion industry in the future!

Today was a chance for campers to visit some of the amazing shops and boutiques that New York City has to offer.

After a week of behind the scenes tours and presentations the campers took their new-found skills onto the shop floor and put the theory to the test, from Louis Vuitton to Bloomingdales no store was left unturned.  The weather was great for lots of walking up and down 5th avenue.

When everyone regrouped and squeezed all their shopping bags into the room at LIM they all agreed that knowing the background to the shopping experience had made the process that bit more enjoyable.

Hi Fashion CampNYCers!

I heard that you had an amazing photo shoot this morning where you all got to play models and stylists...sounds like so much fun! I can't wait to see the photos!!

How was Fashion Illustration with Elisa??? Are there any fabulous up and coming designers in our group? I want to hear all about it and see some artwork on your style boards on Friday. Elisa came back to Coach with so much enery and excitement. She loved meeting all of you and was flattered by the "photo op" at the end of her illustration session. Ariana was also very impressed with your skills!

Juicy Couture fans out there...how much fun was it to get some inside scoop on Juicy and how they became so unbelievably popular? Anne is also one of the trend experts in the business and really understands how fashion forecasting works from designer brands like Narciso Rodriguez to more mainstream brands like Liz Claiborne. The process whether you are a designer brand or a mass brand is pretty much the same but of course, the execution is totally different!

And your project...I am hoping that you are making great progress creating your own unique and innovative brands. I am SO curious to see what you have come up with.

Tomorrow...get your fashionista gear on AND your chic but COMFORTABLE shoes (ballet flats are a good choice) because you are hitting the hottest stores in Manhattan...the 3 B's of shopping...Bergdorf's, Barney's and Bendel's! For those of you from NYC and very familiar with these meccas, please impart your wisdom on the hottest floors and best areas to shop to all of those campers in the group who may be experiencing this for the first time. Remember Bergdorf's and Bendel's are exclusive to NYC so most people from out of town haven't checked them out.

So rest up tonight and get ready to see the best stores New York has to offer. Keep in mind our discusssions about branding and atmosphere and how you experience different brands and see if your perspective changes during your visits. You might start to see things in a new and different way...

Have fun! and I will check in with all tomorrow...

All my best,
Fran

First stop, Eric Steding’s Shop Studios, home of fashion shoots, TV shows and exclusive industry gatherings.

Next up was a visit to the corporate headquarters of Coach, where everyone was treated to a tour of the archives looking at handbags from the 1950's through to the very latest creations.

After lunch the campers headed over to Barneys Co-op store. There they met with Stacey Mayesh, stylist to the stars, who gave fascinating insights into making people look good and how to shop for celebrities.

A quick visit to Dylan's Candy Bar rounded off a busy and exciting second day, leaving everyone with a fantastic feeling for the fashion industry, in the fashion capital of the world, New York City!

Welcome to the first day of FashionCampNYC!  Campers got to know each other playing icebreakers while learning all about each other’s fashion backgrounds.

This was followed by industry insights from Fran Della Badia, Sr. Vice President of Merchandising for Coach and Textile Designer Elizabeth McNulty.

Everyone was captivated by this in-depth look into the fashion industry and judging by the number of questions asked, both speakers could have talked passionately for hours!

Campers began work on their group projects in the afternoon.  They worked in teams ripping apart magazines for ideas and concepts as inspiration boards were put together.

It was busy and exciting first day, stayed tuned for much more this week!
